Hue is a fascinating city located in Central Vietnam and is the provincial town of Hue Province. It was once the capital city of Vietnam under the reign of Nguyen (1802-1945). Hue is famous for its array of temples, palaces, tombs and architecture associated with the natural landscape. Located nearby the Perfume river, Hue is an object of cultural heritage significance and national spirit, a unique cultural region of Vietnam and the world. In 1993, Hue was recognized as a UNESCO world cultural heritage.
On this tour you will be picked up from your hotel by your local guide who will outline the program for you. We will travel by car, which is approximately a 3 hour drive to reach the city center. On the way, we will stop at Hai Van where you can take beautiful photos of the natural and mountainous landscape the pass has to offer.
Once we arrive in Hue, we will visit the Citadel (a walled fortress and palace spread out over 2km of land) where your guide will give you insights on what life was like for those living in the Citadel during its time as the capital city. After visiting the Citadel, you can enjoy a delicious local Vietnamese lunch before heading out on the afternoon’s adventures.
In the afternoon, you will take a boat cruise along the beautiful Perfume River to the Thien Mu Pagoda. Built in the early 17th century, this is the tallest pagoda in all of Vietnam and is regarded as the unofficial symbol of the former imperial capital.
After visiting the Pagoda, we will then visit a king’s tomb, either Tu Duc or Khai Dinh. Tu Duc was built for the Nguyen Emperor, Tu Duc and took 3 years to build from 1864 – 1867. Khai Dinh was also a Nguyen Emperor and his tomb was built in 1920 – 1931, taking 11 years to build. Khai Dinh worked closely with the government of France and therefore the tomb was built with a lot of French architectural influence.
Once we have visited the king’s tomb we will take the car back to Hoi An, which is approximately a 2 hour drive.
