MY SON SANCTUARY

If you are an avid lover of ancient history than My Son Sanctuary is a must see! My Son Sanctuary is located in the upper area of Thu Bon River, Da Nang City and is about 20km from Tra Kieu citadel west, in an area of the narrow valley. It is a cluster of Hindu temples located in the Duy Phu commune, Duy Xuyen district. It was once a place of worship where the Cham-Pa (known as Cham people, today) would make sacrifices to the Gods.Built between the 4th – 14th century A.D., this famous architectural complex of the Cham was built to worship the god Shiva. My Son was recognised as a world cultural heritage site in 1999 by UNESCO.
On this tour you will be picked up from your hotel and brought to the My Son Sanctuary site. Here, your guide will take you through the site which stretches out over approximately 2km of land. Your local guide will give you an insight into what Cham way of life and how they would use the temples as a place of worship and sacrifice. You will also find artifacts that were built centuries ago and are still left in great tact. You will also see the travesty that was left behind from the bombing of the ancient temples and how, with the help of UNESCO, the local people are able to restore this ancient wonder.
